Caving projects throught New Zealand
The idea of this is to share some ideas of where you could go and look for some new cave. If you do follow up on these leads please let me know how you get on.
The project list starts off with Waitomo and some of the surrounding areas. I am working on a NZ wide list that includes big projects on Mt Arthur and Mt Owen and some bigcave diving projects
My favourites in the North Islands would be
The end of the Ripper. A sporty 2 kilometre cave trip to a place where the roof drops to about 5 centimetres of the floor. Would be an easy dig with truck loads of potential.
The little cave located down the valley from Balcony Shaft. This does have a lot of potential to drop into the main waitomo stream downstream of the Slabstone and Balcony shaft caves
Of course the Ernies dig. Its been about 15 years since I was in there last and the most northern dig is a real goody. Will probably need a drill and caps or someone with a bang license
The Black Sands system. Here is an enormous cave with heaps of potential. Be a great project for a club to take up.
There is of course the digs in Speleo Pig. This dig has been entertaining and the Grovel Plop Kuratahi connection down at Puketiti.
